The Tennessee Titans were reportedly open to trading down from No. 1 for most of the pre-draft process.
Then, they saw Cam Ward work out at his Pro Day and changed their mind.
While most of the talk and attention focused on Travis Hunter and the Shedeur Sanders debacle, the Titans couldn’t be happier with their selection.
Likewise, the Miami product isn’t too worried about the attention.
In a recent interview, the reigning No. 1 pick claimed to be ‘all about business,’ and he’s ready to put in the work:
“I’m about business. I really want to be a pro. I want to be one of the great ones. And I just want to be a good teammate at the end of the day. I want to win a lot of football games in my career,” Ward said.
Ward was the consensus best quarterback in this class, but the bar wasn’t that high.
Some analysts aren’t high on him, and they argue that he might not have even been a first-round pick in last year’s stacked quarterback class.
Then again, he’s used to that.
He’s been overlooked his entire career, and time and time again, he’s proven everybody wrong.
Now, he will play for a rebuilding team with plenty of issues to address, but he will be given every single opportunity to get better and be great there.
The Titans knew they needed to move on from the ever-struggling Will Levis, and Ward has the arm talent and athleticism to make a big impact right out of the gate.
Once it’s all said and done, it will be interesting to look back on his career and see whether those who weren’t impressed by his game were right about him.
Given his work ethic and character, that doesn’t seem likely.
