The New York Jets are transitioning to a new era in 2025.
Aaron Glenn will have Justin Fields as his starting quarterback, and the team has reportedly committed to him as much more than just a bridge quarterback.
With that in mind, they made sure to give him an elite protector when they took Armand Membou in the first round of the 2025 NFL Draft.
Membou was one of the highest-ranked offensive linemen in this class.
And given his physical traits, some believe he will have a better career than LSU star Will Campbell.
Notably, that may include ESPN insider Jeremy Fowler.
In ESPN’s latest column, the renowned expert compared Membou to a younger version of Jason Peters:
“Armand Membou will establish himself as a premier right tackle early. Membou has the traits and the demeanor to solidify the Jets’ line. A few scouts I trust have compared his length and play style to a young Jason Peters,” Fowler wrote.
Needless to say, player comps can also fail, but being mentioned in the same sentence as a nine-time Pro Bowler is certainly encouraging.
The Jets bolstered their offensive line ahead of Aaron Rodgers’ final season with the team, but they still need to add a little more horsepower.
Fields has shown glimpses of great play during his young career, but this will most likely be his final shot to be a starter in this league.
The Jets are fully aware of that, which is why they want to put him in a position to succeed.
For the first time in his career, he will have an offense catered to his needs and strengths, and with a stellar protector like Membou there, he might finally have the breakout season we’ve all been waiting for.
