The Houston Texans waited until the second round of the 2025 NFL Draft to get their next star pass-catcher.
With Stefon Diggs leaving and Tank Dell out for the foreseeable future, they set their sights on Iowa State star WR Jayden Higgins.
And while he wasn’t the first, second, or third wideout taken in the three-day event, he could still be in for a big rookie season.
At least, that’s how Moe Moton of Bleacher Report feels.
In his latest column, he predicted that Higgins could beat the likes of Travis Hunter or Tetairoa McMillan for the most receiving touchdowns among first-year wideouts:
“Here’s a surprise rookie stat leader. Jayden Higgins will top Travis Hunter and Tetairoa McMillan for most touchdown receptions,” Moton wrote. “At 6’4″, 210 pounds, Higgins can be an immediate threat in the red zone over Kirk and fellow rookie wideout Jaylin Noel. The Iowa State product has a clear path to becoming the complementary playmaker to Nico Collins in the Texans’ aerial attack.”
Tank Dell will most likely miss the entire season after dealing with a complex knee injury.
The Texans landed veteran Christian Kirk, but he’s struggled with injuries and hasn’t been much of a factor in the past couple of seasons.
That leaves Nico Collins as the de facto WR1 in the C.J Stroud-led offense, and that also leaves the door wide open for Higgins to climb his way up the ladder and make an immediate impact.
Collins is a reliable wide receiver, but he’s never been much of a factor in the endzone, and he has yet to record more than eight touchdowns in a single season.
Higgins is a big-bodied wideout who can be a major mismatch in the final stretch of the field, and Moton believes he will get at least eight scores as a rookie.
The Texans’ offense will look to bounce back after a disappointing season, and Higgins could play a big part in that.
