The Chicago Bears were one of the most disappointing teams in the league last season.
While they added plenty of talent to their offense and a potential generational talent in Caleb Williams, things didn’t get much better.
There were concerns about head coach Matt Eberflus and their shaky offensive line, and it didn’t take long before those very same issues derailed their once-promising campaign.
Now, however, the Bears look ready to take a big splash.
They were one of the biggest winners of the offseason, hiring Ben Johnson as their next head coach and bolstering their offensive line.
Notably, that’s why even though they play in arguably the toughest division in all of football, Moe Moton of Bleacher Report still thinks they will make the playoffs next season:
“The Chicago Bears hired Ben Johnson, one of the league’s top offensive play-callers, as their head coach. In doing so, they also weakened the division-leading Detroit Lions, who fielded a top-five scoring offense with Johnson calling the plays for the last three years,” Moton wrote. “Even in a division with three double-digit-win teams from the previous season, Chicago can find a way to make the playoffs this year.”
Needless to say, having more time and space to move and not being the most-sacked quarterback in the league will do wonders to help Caleb Williams.
More than that, having an offensive-minded head coach with a creative offensive mind will also bring the best out of the talented former No. 1 pick.
The Bears already showcased a strong defensive front, and there’s no shortage of talent on the roster.
Coach Johnson is more than familiar with the ins and outs of the NFC North Division as well.
Granted, you never know how a first-year head coach will fare, not even those who thrived as assistants.
Still, the Bears look like a strong contender to make the playoffs right now, at least on paper.
