The Miami Dolphins need to have a solid backup quarterback.
Tua Tagovailoa has struggled to stay on the field for most of his career, and, given his history with concussions, you never know what’s going to happen to him in the future.
With that in mind, they took a flyer late in the NFL Draft.
They took Quinn Ewers out of Texas, someone who was once penciled in as a potential star at the next level.
However, as much as the pick made sense, especially at that point in the draft, NFL analyst Greg Cosell isn’t so high on him.
Talking on the Ross Tucker Podcast, Cosell expressed some major concerns about his game:
“I watched Quinn Ewers for three straight years, and I’m just being honest, I don’t think his tape was very good,” Cosell said. “There’s a lot of things that need to be cleaned up. I think his lower body mechanics is not good at all. He has poor footwork, lack of balance, he struggles when there’s people around him. He was drafted where he was because there were clear concerns watching his tape.”

Ewers has an absolute cannon for an arm, and he made some big-time throws during his days with the Longhorns.
Even so, just like Cosell pointed out, his footwork and mechanics have left a lot to be desired.
Also, he’s missed some time with injuries, and trusting an injury-prone quarterback to be another one’s backup might not be the safest bet.
Still, the Dolphins don’t need Ewers to take the field right now.
He was worth the risk at that point, and he can work and develop behind an offensive-minded head coach like Mike McDaniel.
The talent is clearly there, and the arm strength is impressive.
There shouldn’t be high expectations for players taken No. 231, but we shouldn’t rush to count anybody out after watching Brock Purdy emerge and become a starter on a Super Bowl-caliber team.
