It looked like the Minnesota Timberwolves were on their way to a defeat on Monday night against the Golden State Warriors, but then Anthony Edwards gave his team a pep talk in the locker room that got them back on track.
Speaking with ESPN, he shed some light on what he told his fellow players and how that helped them score a huge 117-110 win over the Warriors.
“I told them, ‘We only got two wins,'” Edwards said after Monday’s Game 4, recalling his message. “I’ve never seen a series end 2-1. I told them we have to get two more wins and right now we’re playing like we already got four wins. … We had to figure it out because if we would have kept playing like that, we would have lost tonight.”
Following that talk, the Timberwolves looked a lot better, and Edwards performed like a true hero.
He scored 16 points on 6-of-8 from the field in the third quarter, and the Timberwolves were able to open a gap.
That, along with a strong defensive plan from head coach Chris Finch, turned the game around for Minnesota, and they were soon firmly in the driver’s seat.
They now hold a 3-1 lead in the series, which means they are just a single victory away from sending the Warriors home for good.
Golden State is desperate to hang on, especially because they could get Steph Curry back in the next few games.
But coming back from being down 3-1 is a gargantuan task, and it is not clear if the Warriors can do it.
Golden State will have a tough time rallying no matter what, but especially if Edwards continues to encourage, guide, and lead his team like he did on Monday.
