Draymond Green of the Golden State Warriors knows that many people talk about him, and, quite frankly, he’s tired of it.
Speaking to the press, via Anthony Slater, after Thursday night’s loss to the Minnesota Timberwolves, Green was honest about the comments and views of him.
“I’m not an angry black man. I’m a very successful, educated black man with a great family, and I’m great at basketball. I’m great at what I do. The agenda of trying to make me look like an angry black man is crazy. I’m sick of it. It’s ridiculous,” Green said.
“Angry” is a word used about Green often.
Since the start of his career, he has had many on-court incidents with other players, officials, coaches, and even fans.
He has a reputation as one of the biggest hotheads in the history of the league, and he’s well aware of that.
But that doesn’t mean he’s an angry person, and he certainly doesn’t want his race to be a factor in how people view him.
The truth is that Green isn’t the only NBA player who gets into on-court spats.
And the further truth is that there is a difference between the person on the basketball court and the man who friends and family know.
Green might be a pain in the neck of his opponents during games, but he could be a perfectly friendly and well-adjusted man when the final buzzer sounds.
No matter how he is seen by critics, one thing is certain: Green is one of the most successful basketball players in the world.
He might have a temper, and he might rub people the wrong way, but no one can question his career accomplishments.
