Jalen Hurts capped off a remarkable season in perfect storybook fashion.
The Philadelphia Eagles quarterback guided his squad to a commanding 40-22 win over the Kansas City Chiefs, clinching just the second Super Bowl championship in team history.
For any NFL player, this represents the ultimate achievement on the biggest stage.
In the moments following the final whistle, Hurts received a touching message from Philadelphia Eagles icon Randall Cunningham.
The former quarterback recently shared the contents of that text during a conversation with The Athletic.
“What I didn’t fulfill,” Cunningham wrote to Jalen Hurts, “I’m fulfilling through you.”
The Philadelphia Eagles selected Randall Cunningham in the second round of the 1985 NFL Draft, beginning a relationship that would span 11 memorable seasons.
During his time with the team, Cunningham earned three Pro Bowl selections while showcasing his versatile talents.
He passed for more than 22,000 yards and added over 4,400 rushing yards, finding the end zone 32 times on the ground.
Despite his electric performances and highlight reel plays, Cunningham never experienced the same playoff success as Hurts.
In the six seasons where he started at least 12 games, the Eagles saw their postseason journeys end at the Divisional Round twice, in both 1988 and 1992.
His closest brush with Super Bowl glory actually came with the 1998 Minnesota Vikings, who suffered a heartbreaking 30-27 loss to Atlanta in the NFC Championship game.
Though Cunningham never hoisted the Lombardi Trophy with the Eagles, his legacy remains firmly intact.
He still ranks third in franchise history for completions, passing yards, and passing touchdowns.
Seeing a former player find fulfillment through another’s success demonstrates the genuine bond athletes develop with organizations that truly embrace them.
