The Boston Celtics faced potentially devastating news on Monday night, as they not only lost Game 4 of the Eastern Conference semifinals, but may have also lost their biggest star too.
Jayson Tatum suffered what could be a very serious injury to his lower left leg during Game 4 and had to be helped off the court.
Right now, no one knows for sure, but the Celtics could be without Tatum for some time.
Following the game, New York Knicks star Karl-Anthony Towns had nothing but kind things to say about Tatum.
“I’ve been in a situation like that with my calf [before],” Towns said, “so I just walked up, respectful of his space, and just prayed to my mother, prayed to God, to put protection over him, comfort. Whatever he needs to go through, I hope it’s a quick, painless process. I’m hoping we can see him back here soon, with the superstar talent he is, playing at the highest level.”
Just a few years ago, Towns suffered a calf tear that appeared to be a torn Achilles at first, so he knows a thing or two about this situation.
An official diagnosis hasn’t been made, but some fans already assume that Tatum has torn his Achilles.
If that’s the case, he’s definitely out of the rest of the series, and next season is in jeopardy too.
Towns obviously wants to beat Tatum and his team, but he doesn’t want to see the Celtics All-Star go out like this.
He wasn’t the only one wishing Tatum well on Monday.
According to reporting from ESPN, the entire locker room was dead silent as everyone waited for any sort of update about Tatum.
The update never came, and the entire franchise was still waiting on Tuesday morning to hear more.
It seems very unlikely that Celtics fans will see Tatum again this season.
But right now, they are worried about more than just losing the series and the season.
Instead, they are worried about their young superstar’s future.
