The Boston Celtics saw their star player, Jayson Tatum, go down on Monday night, suffering what appears to be a very serious leg injury that could take him off the court for months.
Right now, speculation is running rampant, and no one knows anything for sure.
But on Monday night, fellow Celtics star Kristaps Porzingis talked about what this could mean for the team and how they have to push on, with or without Tatum.
“These things happen,” Porzingis said to ESPN. “Obviously, we all felt for him in that moment, but we just have to keep going, we have to keep playing. Obviously, we all realized in our heads what this could mean, but again, this is part of the sport, it’s tough, and it’s hard to see and hard to accept the truth.”
Tatum’s injury occurred in the final moments of Monday’s Game 4 against the New York Knicks.
It was a tight game, but the Knicks had the advantage and were just minutes away from taking a 3-1 lead.
That is ultimately what happened, and now the team is a single win away from advancing to the Eastern Conference Finals, while the Celtics’ season could end in disappointment.
Tatum was on a roll before his injury, scoring 42 points and going 16-of-28 from the floor.
This was one of the best games of his career, which makes this injury even more painful.
No matter what happens with Tatum, the Celtics are in a tough position, and the rest of the season is hanging by a thread.
They will attempt to keep fighting hard, but there is no doubt that all thoughts are with Tatum right now, and everyone is nervously waiting to get any sort of update soon.
